Distribution and dominant species of aquatic insects in the Ohtakine River of abukuma River group, were studied at 10 sampling stations from July 1988 to July 1989. The results are summerized as follows: 1) 98 species were recorded. 22 of them were Ephemeroptera, 10 were Odonata, 2 were Megaloptera, 6 were Trichoptera, 2 were Plecoptera, 14 were Coleoptera, 36 were Diptera, and the remainder were other species. 2) Seasonal changes of dominant species in the reservoir were investigaed. The dominant species of aquatic insects in the Ohtakine River were three e.g., Hydropsyche orientalis Martynov (Trichoptera), Baetis yamatoensis Gose (Ephemeroptera), and Chironomidae spp. (Diptera). 3) Some aquatic insects e.g., Hydropsyche orientalis Martynov (Trichoptera), Protohermes grandis Tunberg (Megaloptera), and B. yamatoensis Gose (Ephemeropterra), showed the largest wet weight in this river. But other aquatic insects, e.g., Atherix ibis Fabricus (Diptera), Parablepharocera esakii Takahashi (Diptera), and some species of Odonata showed large wet weight too, though the number of individuals was small.
