Based on the information in two primary source documents from 1916 and 1925, this paper offers a detailed explanation of the history and development of Tatsueji, the 19th temple of the Shikoku pilgrimage, as well as highlight twenty-seven miracle out of ninety-eight tales based on various themes related to this temple. At present, very little work has been done in either English or Japanese in the field of reigen or miracle tales of temples along the Shikoku pilgrimage, thus, the information and translated stories provided here will provide the reader a new, in-depth look at the history of Tatsueji and the tales connected to it. Reasons as to why these books were produced will be addressed in a future article, however, the number and variety of such reigen contained in these two books shows that Tatsueji tried to maintain its popularity among people and to ensure that such people continued to believe in its main deity and visit the temple site.
