This short paper presents reasons for implicit instruction of first-year junior college students in fundamental study habits and the need to incorporate learning strategies into their curriculum. It also points out the importance of recognizing individual learning styles and the need for teachers to realize differences in learner styles and preferences. In doing so it examines responses to a questionnaire administered to 80 students in an English immersion preparation class as well as providinginformation from students after one semester of study in Canada.
