The purpose of this study was to clarify the spatial structure of hot spring areas by geographical features, water resources and street configuration. Geographical features, water resources, and street configuration were classified into 5, 7 and 4 categories, respectively. Street configuration was then classified based on these classification results. Tendencies of spatial structure were clarified. The spatial structure of the hot spring areas is influenced by geographical features and water resources, and street configuration is influenced by geographical features, which in turn influences the growth of the hot spring areas. These findings are important for understanding the spatial structure of the hot spring areas in order that town planning accounts for the rich individuality of respective areas, and make best use of unique regional resource and regional characteristics.
