In this paper, one-dimensional Haar wavelets are implemented to extract local differences from 3D brain single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) volumes. Many researchers reported that most common abnormalities are symmetric or asymmetric bilateral temporal or parietal hypoperfusion when comparing Alzheimer's disease with normal controls. These differences can be captured in the wavelet coefficients at some specific resolution levels. Experiments showed that we can classify Alzheimer's disease from normal controls with sensitivity 88% and specificity 82% based on these Haar wavelets of local differences.
