A girl patient, aged ten, had an operation for a pericaecal abscess. After forty days, she recovered sufficiently to leave the hospital, without appendectomy. But on that same day she became ill again with an acute case of diffuse perito-nitis and began to show paralytic and adhesive ileus symptoms. Therefore I made a Witzel's enteric fistula and tried to keep the tube opening and closing. By degrees the intestinal somptom decreased and then entirely disappeared. When I removed the tube the opening of the wound immediately closed and her condition appeared much improved. There are many different ways of making an enteric fistula but all of them have the following faults: can not put discharge in order, give digestive skin ulcer, and can not work the spontaneous closure. But in Witzel's enteric fistula, by means of a clamp the discharge is measured the danger of the loss of body fluids abolished, the fluid of the discharge is not dispersed on the abdominal walls, and finally the spontaneous closure can be made naturally. Besides, (such as injections of nutritive material or aid for peristaltic movement.,) (we can pass various kinds of medium through this Witzelis tube,) When we find ileus symptoms in a patient, it is best to make this tube with in proper length of time and fase it with other methods of treatment. This would encouroge rapid progress in therapeutics as well as lead prognosis to good results.
