According to the hitherto accepted physiological explanation, the function of the lungs was to inhale air from the atmosphere, to collect the oxygen of the air, and to eliminate the carbon dioxide and water vapor of the blood by expelling them into the atmosphere. It is my intention to deny the above explanation, on the basis of the considerations set out in the following paragraphs: A. In the case of acute pneumonia and other similar diseases, the inhalation of oxygen usually brings about satisfactory results, but if such a satisfactory condition is merely the result of meeting the shortage of oxygen in the blood, this condition can be obtained also by means of subcutaneous injection of oxygen, instead of inhalation. It would seem that similar results ought to be obtainable in both cases. Practical tests have shown, however, an actual difference of conditions. If ozonized oxygen is used for the injection, under similar conditions, immediate and unique results are obtained. B. In the case of very acute inflammatory diseases such as carbuncles, anthrax and others, no particular results are obtained on injecting oxygen in close proximity to the infected parts. If, however, ozonized oxygen is injected in these cases, an immediate reduction of the pain can be obtained and the inflammation is gradually reduced. C. If it be considered that the oxygen taken into the lungs goes directly into the blood, oxygen injected subcutaneously should also go directly into the blood, but the facts disprove such a view. When ozonized oxygen is injected, it quickly enters the blood stream. At the same time, the use of ozonized oxygen instead of ordinary oxygen has a great effect on the fluctuation of the oxidized haemoglobin in the blood. This fact has been verified by me in previous experiments. Hence I make the following conclusions: 1. That the oxygen absorbed into the lungs is completely different in its characteristics from the oxygen before absorption. 2. That the transformed gas may be believed to be ozonized oxygen. 3. That the above process is due to a special function of the lungs. In another words, I believe that oxygen-the most necessary element of human existence-undergoes a certain transformation within the lungs, and that also it is closely associated with the process of the purification of the blood. As my belief is different from the hitherto accepted theories, I present this view as a new hypothesis. Furthermore, as a subsidiary hypothesis, I present the following: The ozonized oxygen which I have mentioned is considered to consist of a small amount of O_3 and a large proportion of O_2. This gas has properties absolutely different from the oxygen of the air, as different, we might say, as a woman is from a virgin. The ozonized oxygen is like a mother endowed with great maternal love. I propose to call this ozonized oxygen "Ozonal", in order to differentiate it from the ordinary oxygen we find in the atmosphere. We may think of this condition as similar to that of hydrogen gas, which has two types, the light and the heavy. The O_3 portion of the ozonized oxygen immediately dissolves and disassociates in the blood, the O molecule entering the blood immediately and creating with the blood albumen a new substance, which I intend to call "Ozonamin". This is similar to the existence of vitamin in food. Furthermore, I wish to emphasize the great significance of this substance in the wellbeing of all living organisms. The above statements represent the result of my investigations.
