Two different arc V-I characteristic equations are discussed about their applicability to calculation of break arc voltage and current waveforms in an inductive circuit. One is the Ayrton equation and the other is the author's. Because each equation was derived from experiment but in different experimental conditions, respectively, the discussion is made from two viewpoints: comparison of calculated break arc waveforms with measured ones and the experimental basis of each equation.
