Overlays and P2P technologies have evolved as vehicles to enable wide-area deployment of network services such as various kinds of content delivery services. On the other hand, disregarding underlay network topology, the current P2P applications may cause inefficient network resource utilization and poor application performance, which poses a significant problem as the rapid increase in the content delivery traffic. We thus investigate a way to optimize application traffic through cooperation between overlay and underlay networks to improve application performance as well as resource utilization in network providers.
