A Modified Efficient Method to Determine the Diagonal Loading Factor Using Direct Search of Gaussian Distribution(Opening Session)

The diagonal loading method is renowned for its robust improvement to beamformers, however, the selection of an ideal diagonal loading factor (DLF) is a tough problem so that it has not been well addressed until recently a method using direct search algorithm based on minimum Constant Modulus error (MCME) criterion emerges. Nevertheless, in MCME method, the total number of searching steps is so large that a great computation complexity is led to by the recalculation of the cost function in each step interval. Since the cost function is convex with a desired DLF near the middle of the fixed searching region, which is shown by simulation results, we present a modified method to determine DLF using direct searching of Gaussian distribution. In the proposed method, the length of searching steps are closely related to the position of the present searching point in the fixed region, and the steps are iteratively selected according to Gaussian distribution. Compared to the previous method, the proposed method has less computation complexity and similar performances.
