The purpose of this paper is to investigate gender differences in educational aspiration by using data of junior high school students and their parents in the metropolitan area. The results of this study indicate that (1) boys have strong aspiration for higher education because they seek education for status attainment; (2) parents' aspiration and concern about their children's future affect the aspiration of their sons and daughters; and (3) parents' attitudes toward education and gender norms significantly affect their daughters' aspiration.
