A stock option is a right to purchase shares of stocks for a fixed price within a defined period of time. With the revision of the Commercial Code made in May, 1997 approved in the Diet, stock option plans were released to Japanese corporations as part of the Big Bang in Japan. Prior to this, NCR Japan implemented a stock option plan in January, 1997. The purpose of this paper is to consider the meanings and problems of the stock option plan through a case study of the stock option plan implementation at NCR Japan.
