Lifetime employment (Shushin Koyo) means an employee works at one company through one's whole working life. Up to present, the author did not distinguish the lifetime employment from lifetime employment system (Shushin Koyo Sei). The latter is not a system of the lifetime employment but is a system intended to realize lifetime employment. While the employees regard continuation of employment as the means for stabilizing their lives, the employers do so for increasing the stock in one worker's skills. This system gives a possibility of realizing the lifetime employment to both sides. The lifetime employment system is a total system built with its subsystems. This system includes five different types of systems (each has its own subsystems) dependent upon the historical and social necessities. For the employees, this system has been the largest inducement, which is the cause of their organizational commitment. Organizational commitment is the key concept of this system. Author attempts to forecast the future of employment system by this concept. Readers are asked to refer to the author's recent book, Shushin Koyo Sei, Bunshinnso, Tokyo.
