Feasibility of semisolid forging of titanium alloy using rapid resistance heating was investigated. The performance of resistance heating of titanium alloy into the semisolid state was firstly examined using cylindrical billets with a diameter of 10mm and a height of 20mm as test pieces, and then the performance of the semisolid upsetting of the alloy billet was examined varying input energy and upsetting pressure as operational parameters, where an AC power supply with an output impedance of about 0.5mΩ was used. Our findings were as follows. (1) The billet was rapidly resistance-heated into the semisolid state in less than 0.4s at an average current density of about 95Amm^<-2> in effective value. (2) The input energy control adopted for stable billet heating functioned well because of the rapidness of the resistance heating. (3) Experimental semisolid upsetting, in which an upsetting controller was linked to the resistance heating controller, performed successfully.
