A new cylindrical hydrocyclone without tapered section is designed for miniaturization and improvement of durability. The collection efficiency of this hydrocyclone is lower than that of the conventional hydrocyclone. In order to improve the separation performance, a separating plate is attached to the dust chamber inlet. We experimentally investigate the influences of the clearance between separating plate and dust chamber inlet as well as the inlet velocity on the flow ratio, pressure loss, and collection efficiency. As a result, it is found that the separating plate is similar to the collection efficiency of the conventional hydocyclone. As the clearance between separating plate and dust chamber inlet gets smaller, the collection efficiency increases, but the flow ratio decreases.
