• JCOP (Japan CO_2 Geosequestration in Coal Seams Project) representing Japan' s first CO_2-ECBM field trial has been designed to evaluate technical feasibility of extracting methane gas while storing CO_2 in Japanese coal seams. An injection well (IW-1) and a production well (PW-1) are bored at the preliminary test site to investigate basic characteristics of CO_2 injection and CH_4 production. A mount of CO_2 injection was lower than we suspected, but CH_4 productions at PW-1 were enhanced almost 5times larger than each base production prior to the injection.
