The purpose of this study was to investigate computerized techniques for formation analysis in volleyball. The selected game was S high school VS K high school, the final game of the inter-high school athletic competition in Kyushu. The two-dimensional coordinates on a TV monitor were converted to real coordinates by Direct Linear Transformation Method. The position of the player was estimated from the coordinates of the average of player's both foot by using superimposed computer (X1 turbo, SHARP). The various kinematic parameters were obtained from the two-dimensional coordinates. The results were summarized as follows: 1) When the setter hands touch the ball, S high school assumed defensive position of 3-2-1, K high school assumed defensive position of 3-1-2. 2) In S high scool, the average of moved speed of the plyers was 0.5〜2.0m/s from set to end. In K high school, the average of moved speed of the player was 0.5〜1.0m/s before spike, more than 2.0m/s after spike. 3) There were no defference in the position killed by left and right spike between 3-2-1 and 3-1-2 formation. In center spike, 3-1-2 receive formation was killed left and right side line close to the 3 meter line.
