This study explored the dietary habits and subjective symptoms of 257 university students and 149 junior college students, with an average age of 20.8 years. Three groups were compared. The first group included students who lived with more persons. A second group lived alone, but in a dormitory. The third group lived alone in an apartment. The study focused on breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day. The study found that the 50 % of apartment group did not have breakfast every day. Subjective symptoms among students who had irregular dietary habits had significantly more stomach complaints when compared to other groups in the study (p>0.05). The study concluded that giving basic nutritional knowledge to single students living an apartment may reduce their physical complaints. Furthermore, our research proposes that to be effective in preventing such students from developing life-style diseases, intervention should focus on people around 20 years of age.
