The first Code of Points in Gymnastics was formulated by International Gymnastics Federation (F.I.G.) in 1949. It is commonly assumed that the 1964 edition of the Code of Points is the basis of present Code of Points. From the 1964 edition to the 2006 edition, the Code of Points has been revised for 10 times, and 11 revised editions have been published since 1964. The purpose of this investigation was to clarify the tendency of how gymnastics skills have been developed by putting all the published skills together, in order to make fundamental materials for future study. This time, the investigation was focused on vaulting skills only. The results in present study were summarized as follows. ・Total 177 vaulting skills have been published since the 1964 edition to 2006 edition. ・In the 1964 edition, only 12 vaulting skills were published. However, within about half century, the number of vaulting skills has increased for 10 times, and 133 vaulting skills were published in the 2006 edition. ・During the period, developments in the first flight phase were mainly made in vaults with 1/4 turn or rounding off after or before jumping off the springboard, respectively. In the second flight phase, the developments were mainly seen in vaults with handspring and Yamashita styles, which were characterized by rotations of the body about lateral and longitudinal axes of the body after pushing off the horse. ・Although the largest number of vaulting skills with highest values was published in the 1989 edition, the number has decreased after the edition, and only one new vaulting skill with highest value was published in the 2006 edition. ・Of all the published vaulting skills, there were 5 vaulting skills that were continuously published from the 1964 edition to the 2006 edition. During this period, there were 27 vaulting skills with only one publication, and two of these 27 vaulting skills were newly published skills in the 2006 edition.
