The word "Kotowari nimo sugitari" is used in the Miyako-uturi (the transfer of the capital to Fukuhara) part of the Hojoki. This word is interpreted in two different ways. It may mean (a) extraordinary, (b) naturally, and this causes confusion. In this paper I examined the usage of the word and found (b) is misinterpretation. Then I explored the process of the misinterpretation.
