Collective intentionality is a relatively new topic in analytical philosophy. Studies on this topic started at least around the 1980s. As research on intentionality and action progressed, some philosophers started to show their interest in the social dimension of these phenomena ; this trend can be seen as a natural development from the forgoing investigations. There was also influence from artificial intelligence. The Society of Mind of Marvin Minsky was published in 1985. Since then, multi-agent approaches and parallel distributed computing have been in fashion. However, study on collective intentionality is still in its infancy ; at the moment, we have no standard theory in this field. In this paper, I would like to propose how to connect an analysis of collective intentionality with the characterization of social organization.
