The purpose of this document is to review the chronology of modern eaves tiles which was presented in 1994 because it has become difficult to understand the present situation correctly. In the former chronology, we focused on the main island of Okinawa because the information was limited, but in line with the increase of information available, we expanded the target area to the peripheral isolate islands and Sakishima Islands in this chronology, and added Yakugawara (a roof tile used for a special portion of a roof) newly to the roof tile types. As a result, the types of tile patterns were divided into 18 pattern styles of Nokimarugawara (a half round eave end tile), 9 pattern styles of Nokihiragawara (a broad and concave eave-end tile), and 21 pattern styles of Yakugawara in the main island of Okinawa, 5 pattern styles of Nokimarugawara and 4 pattern styles of Nokihiragawara in Kume Island, 2 pattern styles of Nokimarugawara and 1 pattern style of Nokihiragawara in Miyako Island, and 2 pattern styles of Nokimarugawara and Nokihiragawara respectively in Yaeyama Islands. We also understood them dividing into 4 periods based on the change of the various characteristics in fabrication techniques. This enabled us to understand eaves tiles in Okinawa Islands in terms of the color conversion from gray into red due to the firing techniques, reduction in the number of pattern styles, simplification of the forming, shortening of shapes, and weight saving. On the other hand, Yakugawara showed the diversification of the styles and we confirmed an opposite development. We were also able to clarify the conditions of the peripheral areas in a structured method, including the peripheral isolate islands where products are delivered from the main island of Okinawa and the Sakishima area which introduces tile-making techniques and develops them uniquely.
