This study was intended to clarify the importance of elbow motion during the process of movement by paying attention to the rising and falling snake-like wave motion out of fundamental practices in order to mainly express elegance, softness, or complexity in dance action. Subjects with tapes on four points such as shoulder, elbow, wrist, and tip of the little finger were examined concerning the rising and falling snake-like motion of arms in four different conditions. The motion was taken by Bolex and video cameras from the side and objective observation of the total picture was made by the use of 16mm editor and video analyzer machines. Comparison, classification, and consideration were made by producing fracing loci by cinematograph and local pictures. The result showed that although the power was not fully transmitted to whole arms with a fixed, unmoving, and unbending position of the elbow, the wave of power was orderly transmitted to whole arms when the position of elbow was smoothly changed up and down and the angle of elbow easily changed with its relaxation. Therefore, the elbow was considered to be an important starting point to transmit the wave of power.
