X-ray fluorescence(XRF) has been widely used for elemental analysis in the field of quality control of processes and research since it has the capability of performing non-destructive analysis and requires easy-to prepare samples. However, for an application, such as a water sample, it may be difficult to precipitate for preconcentration of trace elements in water concerning the detection limits, sensitivity, precision, linearity and dependence of the recovery on the concentration of metal ions. The methods used most widely include ion exchange, precipitation, absorption and chelation with immobilized and non-immobilized reagents. In this investigation, the precipitation of the trace elements in water by using Dibenzyldithiocarbamate (DBDTC) as a chelating agent and the subsequent determination by X-ray Fluorescence analysis have been studied. The X-ray intensity of trace elements for precipitation depends on several factors such as pH, aging temperature, aging time, sample volume and filter diameters, filtration diameter (diffusion area), collimator area and so on.
