• In this paper, I have examined Middle English prose texts to see whether the line of analyses proposed for Old English in Ohkado (2006) are compatible with the relevant facts in Middle English. Contrary to our expectation, stylistic fronting is widely distributed in the Middle English prose texts analyzed in the present study so that we cannot draw a conclusion that the operation is solely attributed to Scandinavian influences. The present findings call for more research on the phenomena both in the Middle and Old English periods.
