Every person, country, and society has different needs and reasons for studying lauguage. These personal factors can greatly influence the rate of acquisition. This paper investigates the relationships of personal needs influencing Second Language Oral Acquisition of Japanese university students. It analyses the results of two surveys conducted from universities around Sapporo city. The results indicated that personal needs are critical factors that should be considered when teaching a second language. The results of this study make useful recommendations for creating an environment that is productive for student and teacher alike.
