We report on one elderly patient with severe behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia(BPSD), which was alleviated by group sessions of music therapy and individual sessions of music therapy with exercise. Group sessions were performed in the facility's refreshment room in groups of 11patients for a duration of 45 to 60minutes, once a week with a total of 10sessions. Session activities included singing season songs and familiar songs to the patients, playing selected instruments and performing rhythm activity. The therapist made effort to actively patient's recollection and imagination. Individual sessions were performed in the facility's common room for a duration of 30minutes (15 minutes on a trampoline with exercise), once a week with a total of 9sessions. Each patient's behavior during the session was rated using the Arbose music therapy check list(AR-MCL). Case 1: A 92-year-old female suffering from Alzheimer's was moved into the geriatric health service facility displaying marked immoderate symptoms of depression, loss of vigor. The total score of AR-MCL increased in line with the number of sessions administered. Observed changes in the case this case suggests that the music therapy for the elderly with dementia has beneficial effects on BPSD.
