The last few decades have seen an enormous change and development in thinking on language learning and proficiency. Both student-teacher roles along with views and expectations on what can and should be tested in learners have changed considerably. Though it might appear that older methods, tried and true, have been thrown out, it is rather that ways have been found at last on how to complement them so that both our teaching and testing can better reach our students and that their individual strengths can be better identified and honored. This paper seeks to present a review of the developments in test theory, and in the practical delivery of subject matter for testing.
