Ohsui ARAI was a Japanese theologian and educator of the 19^<th>/20^<th> century. This era was very important in Japan, because a new system of political and economic life was started. Ohsui was a Japanese Samurai, who integrated Samurai thought and the Christian way of life at the time of the Meiji Restoration. In the first part of this article I'll describe Ohsui's life, works and thoughts (his faith, theological theory and practice of in-house private education), influences on later generations and his continuing relevance in modern-day Japan. In the second part of my article, I'll focus on Ohsui's key-term "the Divine Humility and Harmony". This term is a very important concept of Ohsui's theology. I suggest five meanings of the key-term : the Divine Humility and Harmony; 1. foundation of the Divine Humility and Harmony, 2. Christ's heart of the Divine Humility and Harmony, 3. Confucianism-Christianity expression of the Divine Humility and Harmony, 4. the Idea of Faith in the Divine Humility and Harmony, 5. Practice of the Divine Humility and Harmony. Ohsui stresses the concept of the image of God : All-Embracing One-in-Two. This concept holds that all the things are made of 2 elements, therefore possessing both unity and duality at the same time. In the third part of this article, I'll explain the contemporary message of the Divine Humility and Harmony.
