Japanese Medaka(Oryzias latipes) is well-known species with various geological variations in Japan. It has been classified into the three large populations (North Japan, South Japan, Hybrid) by analyzing isozyme patterning and morphology. Medakas in Kumamoto prefecture have been classified into the two subtypes (Ariake and Satsuma subtypes) of the South Japan population. Medakas from Uto city and Minamata city belong to Ariake subtype and Satsuma subtype respectively. In this study, we attempted to examine the geographic type of Medaka in Yatsushiro by RAPD(Random amplified polymorphic DNA) analysis and by the identification of the morphology of anal fin soft rays.
