We review in detail the perturbation theory of a one- and a two-particle Matsubara Green function within the framework of the Matsubara formalism. By performing the perturbation expansion of the two-particle Green function, the Bethe-Salpeter equation for an interacting electrons system is derived, and the (proper) vertex function is calculated up to the second order with respect to the Coulomb interaction. We also derive a relation between the two-particle Green function and the density-density response function.
