The Rane Group, an automobile components company of India, introduced total qualitymanagement (TQM) in 2000. The impetus behind this decision was India's New EconomicPolicy, under which the automobile components industry became highly developed. As the Rane Group began to concentrate on exports, the need for TQM subsequently increased. In order to reach a world class standard, the Rane Group introduced TQM andother Japanese approaches, especially Japanese management methods, employee educationand training, and total employee involvement.Within the Rane Group, Rane Brake Lining Limited exemplifies the implementation ofTQM. In this case study, policy deployment, daily work management, quality improvementteams, and the activities of QC circles are illustrated. Also discussed is the role of theRane Group QC Coordinator, who promotes TQM activity across the group and contributesto sharing the best practices among the group members
