Vacuum consolidation method was applied to the clayey ground in an attempt to conduct the life-prolongation of the New Waste Disposal Area in Tokyo Bay. Field test for volume reduction was performed to secure further disposal capacity from December, 2005 to February, 2007. The field consists of the original clayey ground in bottom of the sea overlain by the reclamation clay strata, which includes the middle sand layers. These sand layers account for about 30 percent to the total strata. Therefore, the consolidation analysis was carried out by using the method of Carrillo. As a result, the settlements based on the analysis were favorably compared with the actual measured settlements.
