Two-Dimensional Location Information Exchanging Method Based on Time and Frequency Slot Assignment in ITS System

Vehicle location exchanging link layer protocols based on time slot assignment according to the vehicle location have been proposed for inter vehicle communications (IVC). These protocols allocate different time slots to the vehicles for distinguishing the location. However, the limitation of the number of the time slots prevents the wide area location support. This paper proposes a new assignment strategy to expand the supported area by using multiple frequencies to broadcast the location information by combining the time and frequency slots. By using multiple frequencies, the duration of one slot expands and it enables vehicles to exchange more information during one time slot. In this paper, we consider regular triangular structure cell, and time and frequency slot assignment procedures are presented. Furthermore, through computer simulation studies, performance improvement compared with the conventional location exchanging protocols is demonstrated.
