• Randomized clinical trials have proved that carotid endarterectomy prevents cerebral ischemic events. A low complication rate is, however, an indispensable prerequisite for effectiveness of the surgery. In this article, we offer tips and pitfalls of carotid endarterectomy, especially for inexperienced neurosurgeons.
