This study concerns drag reduction by alteration of the turbulent boundary-layer development on Controlled Diffusion (CDB), Double Circular Arc (DCA) and NACA 65-Series compressor blades in a linear cascade arrangement. The turbulent structure modification technique is selected by the use of a passive manipulator, namely riblets, which interact with the inner region of the boundary layer. The experimental investigation covers a range of incidence angles and Reynolds numbers. The global measurement at midspan and the spanwise explorations show a positive benefit at small incidence while an increase of the drag is detected at high positive incidence angle. The physical understanding of the riblet effectiveness is organised around three main points: the blade-surface pressure gradient, different for the chosen blades ; the stability of the Gortler vortices and the comparison with an integral boundary-layer method and experiments.
