The GT8C2 is a mid-sized industrial gas turbine in the 50 to 60MW class. Following the market introduction of the GT8C in 1993, the gas turbine was upgraded with a new compressor and annular EV burner, leading to the GT8C2 (Jeffs, 1997). This paper summarizes the GT8C2's improved engine performance, which is based on the new compressor. The performance is further enhanced by the new annular combustor, which-according to ABB's family concept of industrial gas turbines-introduces GT24/GT26 combustion technology into the GT8C2. Furthermore, it describes the improved engine characteristic for different ambient conditions and part load, and finally, emphasizes the new packaging concept, which will be introduced together with the new compressor and combustor. This new concept allows for thorough testing of the main components in the workshops and will allow for quick installation and commissioning at the customer's site.
