OS-303 Performance Analysis of Combined Cycle Power Plant with Packed Column CO_2 Separator Using Aqueous Monoethanolamine Solution(Organized Session 3: Advanced Combined Cycle)

With regard to CO_2 recovery from exhaust gas of a combined cycle power plant fueled with methane, performance of the power plant with a 150MW advanced gas turbine and a CO_2 separator with packed columns using aqueous solution of monoethanolamine (MEA) has been evaluated. For calculation of CO_2 mass transfer in the packed column a simulation model made by the authors is used. A net efficiency of 40.3% (HHV basis) and a CO_2 emission index of 88kg (MWh)^<-1> are expected at a CO_2 recovery ratio of 0.8 with such a cross sectional area of the absorbing column as the size of existing heat recovery steam generators but with not a high absorbing column. Usage of rejected heat of the gas turbine in order to generate steam required by the CO_2 separator is effective with regard to the net efficiency of the power plant, but usage of an extra boiler is not suitable in this sense. A cross-flow-type CO_2 absorber reduces the horizontal cross sectional area but does not lead to a net efficiency better than a counter-flow-type does. Recycling of a part of the exhaust gas to be treated (EGR) is effective in reduction of the cross sectional area of the absorbing column but has seldom effect on the net efficiency while the EGR ratio is not greater than 0.4.
