It is a long time since the combined cycle plant performance was in the spotlight for its thermal efficiency. The reason is that it is possible to achieve higher combined cycle performance due to increasing temperature and performance of the gas turbine. The next generation "G" series advanced gas turbines with turbine inlet temperature of 1,500℃ class have been successfully developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI). The "G" series gas turbines (M501G/M701G) are large, heavy-duty, single-shaft gas turbines. Many advanced component technologies are employed with the efficient, reliable design concepts of the "F" series gas turbines (M501F/M701F). This paper describes the operation results of the M501G, at Takasago in-house combined cycle plant through about two-year operation. Aerodynamic, cooling, and mechanical design improvements are discussed to explain about the features of the M501G. Technological advances as well as planned verification test programs are also discussed, for example, the scale model turbine tests, etc.
