In November 1997, the Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) using Blast Furnace Gas (BFG) as a single source of fuel has been put into commercial operation (shown in Figure 1), which Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (KHI) delivered to Baoshan Iron & Steel Corp. (BSC), the largest steel mill in China. Because BFG has low caloric value of 3,100〜3,500kJ/m^3N, it is normally used together with high caloric fuel for large scale gas turbine. This CCPP constructed by BSC and KHI has the largest capacity of 150MW in the world which can use BFG as a single source of gas turbine fuel. Under successful operation, 46% on low caloric value basis of plant thermal efficiency and less than 10ppm of NO_x emission have been confirmed. This paper introduces the outline of this CCPP, the operation results and the high thermal efficiency obtained through more than one year operation.
