The objective of this study was to estimate the combustion characteristics of low heat value gaseous fuels composed by H2, CO, CO2, H2O in various proportion, with particular reference to reformed methanol fuels in CRGT applications. Ignition delay in lean, premixed combustors and NO production both in premixed and non premixed combustion were predicted for various reformed methanol fuels of different composition and compared with those of methane at similar conditions. The study shows that ignition delay times for a reformed gas are up to two orders of magnitude smaller than those of methane ; in addition preliminary simulations indicate that these fuels could considerably reduce NO emissions and improve flame stability in Gas Turbines combustion.
