In order to develop the simplest catalytic combustion system for cogeneration gas turbines, a combustion catalyst system composed of new 1573 K-durable ceramic combustion catalysts and conventional noble metal-carrying honeycomb catalysts was developed. High-pressure (1.0 MPa) combustion performance tests using a catalyst system 50mm in diameter and 160-kW prototype catalytic combustor turbine tests rigged with a catalyst system 220mm in diameter were carried out. The results showed that the basic technical problems for commercialization of the system such as ultra-low NO_x combustion performance, long-term durability including thermal shock endurance, and matching with turbines were solved.
