This paper presents an analytical approach to investigate dynamic responses of turbine rotor blades subjected to incoming viscous wakes from upstream stator (or nozzle) vanes, combining the two methods previously developed by the authors which can predict wake-induced excitations (unsteady forces and moment) acting on the rotor blades and aerodynamic dampings due to blade oscillations. In this paper, using a two-degree-freedom lumped parameters system of the turbine blade oscillation with finite structural damping, characteristics of the bending-torsion coupled blade oscillation, especially at resonance, are investigated in detail. Special emphasis is placed on the effect of operating conditions, i.e. flow coefficient, upon resonance displacements and phase relationships of the bending and torsion modes respectively.
