This paper illustrates a model for the calculation of Gas/Steam Cycles (GSC) designed to perform systematic investigations of their thermodynamic characteristics. The model accounts for all major determinants of GSC performance: gas turbine cooling technology and cooling medium, turbomachinery scale effects, HRSG and steam turbine arrangement, interconnections between gas and steam sections. The system to be analyzed is defined by building a network of nine basic components, which allows representing almost all configurations of interest. Both the models for the gas and steam section have been calibrated with data regarding actual systems offered by major world manufacturers ; in most cases the agreement is definitely satisfactory and supports the results presented in Part B. The paper closes with a comparison with results presented by other authors.
