A multi-dimensional simulation code has been developed to calculate the extended-Zeldovich thermal-NO formation with consideration of spray combustion, soot formation and radiative heat loss. The simulation code has been applied to the analysis of the NO_x formation of a practical pre-chamber type vortex combustor. The tendency of the calculated NO_x emission showed good agreement with the measured results ; the emission index of NO_x did not increase in proportion to fuel air ratio (F/A), decreasing slightly at high F/A. Therefore, the simulation code is confirmed to be applicapable to the prediction of the NO_x emission. The calculated velocity and temperature distributions in the combustor indicate that the tendency of measured NO_x emission is caused by the decrease of the temperature and residence time due to the radiative heat loss and due to the diminution of a recirculating region respectively.
