The combustion efficiency of a small unconventional combustor is correlated using a variable volume for the reaction zone. The standard deviation of 32% of the efficiency loss enables the prediction to be used for the high efficiency region concerned with pollution. The same form of prediction was applied to a small conventional unit with success. The burning volume is shown to be a function of both fuel properties and inlet conditions. Droplet size effects are shown to be insignificant. Carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons are shown to have a fairly fixed relationship with combustion efficiency, not only for this combustor, but also for several others within the published literature.
