We draw attention to the hitherto unappreciated fact that unsteady vortices separated from a wall plays an important role in determining the global distribution of the total temperature in general and the wall temperature in particular. For an impinging jet, the approach of the vortex rings formed at the nozzle discharge induces the secondary vortices on the impingement plate, which, in turn, greatly influences the wall (total) temperature.
