This research paper discribes a gapped V-gutter flameholder used in a jet engine afterburner. It is obtained from model tests on this flameholder that the recover coefficient of total pressure increases by 0.5% when M=0.2, the rich fuel quenching limit reduces by 7% but the quenching limit for poorfuel extends by 37% and the combustion efficiency also gets gains when the optimum gap width 2δ=4〜6mm; The unit fuel comsumption rate decreases about 1% under the full scale engine tests.
