Tests of a centrifugal compressor impeller with 25 deg of backswept operating in 250 to 380 m/s tip speed were conducted. Compared with a radial discharge impeller, stage efficiency has increased 4 points, and flow range expended by 17 percent. This paper discribes the flow characteristics of fluid in impeller, and the effect of impeller structure on compressor performance. The data of slip factor and work factor deduced from tests can be applied to compressor performance prediction.
