There is growing interest today to utilize high temperature gas turbines in cogeneration system to conserve energy. In many cases, the required power output range is approximately 10-15MW. In particular, applications are being made to obtain a higher thermal efficiency as a cogeneration plant with a heat recovery steam generator and an existing steam turbine cycle. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. has developed the 12MW class model MF-111 heavy duty gas turbine embodying the advanced high temperature turbine technology. The model MF-111 gas turbine is aimed at the highest level performance in this class, and designed to give the highest thermal efficiency in total as a combined cycle power plant or a cogeneration plant. This paper describes the design features and cogeneration application of this new engine.
